An Invitation to slow down

The Unrushed Retreat
“There is more to life than increasing its speed.”
Mohandas Ghandi
Over the course of my 10-year yoga practice and 28 years of living, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that often, less is more. In the climate we currently live in, it can feel like we’re constantly being urged to rush, to get as much done in as little time as possible. This has left us with the message that speed equals progression and power. This is a common misconception people bring to their yoga practice. They fling themselves around on the mat, not taking full breaths, jolting from one pose to the next, sometimes even thinking of shavasana as a waste of time and leaving before the final relaxation. They mistakenly believe that rest is weakness or a hindrance to progression.
When in reality it’s the balance of rest and movement that forms the foundation of modern postural yoga: Hatha, Ha meaning action, and Tha meaning rest. What I’ve discovered, on and off the mat, is that when we rush, we often end up running on the spot, like a hamster on a wheel, making the same mistakes over and over again, never really moving forward. When we slow down, we stop bypassing the lessons each practice or experience has to offer. We give ourselves the time to digest and assimilate the good and the bad, the pleasurable and the painful, so we can truly grow, whether it’s working on a handstand or working on being a better person. Both are yoga, and both are achieved through unrushed, patient practice
The Unrushed retreat is a three-day yoga retreat designed to help you shed the high frequency of daily life and stress, and find a renewed sense of inner peace. The experience will be a balanced blend of gentle practice and rest with yoga skill building and education. Through restorative yoga, breathwork techniques to calm the nervous system, and Ayurvedic self-care rituals to re-sync with your body’s natural rhythms, you’ll have space to truly slow down and reconnect. Alongside this, we’ll explore the key components of the Eightfold Path of Yoga, its philosophy, ethics, pranayama, meditation, and asana, taking our time to unpack what yoga really is and experience it in its full form, beyond the tight constraints of a one-hour class. The main body of the retreat will be centred around nervous system reset, rest and rejuvenation through yoga, Ayurveda and nature. However there will be opportunities for dedicated yoga students to deepen their practice through asana clinics, mediation seminars and practice and workshops on yogic philosophy.
The Unrushed Retreat is a deep dive into the yoga of being not just the yoga of doing.

The Venue…
Experience the UK countryside at its finest at the stunning, cosy, and quaint Charity Farm, nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains in Wales.
When deciding where to hold this retreat, I wanted to find a place that was more than just a retreat venue, somewhere that could feel like a home away from home, where people can truly relax and feel nourished. Charity Farm embodies this energy tenfold, with its homely, warm interior and peaceful surroundings.
The charming farmhouse has five bedrooms, four of which can be arranged as either twin or double beds depending on the selected accommodation. All bedrooms have their own bathroom or washroom. There are three open fires, a home cinema, spacious gardens, and spa facilities, including a wood-fired hot tub and sauna, which can be enjoyed at night beneath the incredible starry skies that this quiet pocket of rural countryside boasts.
Travel:
In terms of travel, the farmhouse is approximately a three hour drive from London. If you plan to drive, please let me know, as there is space for up to eight cars to be parked on site. The nearest train station is Abergavenny, with frequent trains from London Paddington. If you’re thinking about getting the train, please let me know before booking so we can coordinate with others taking the same route, I’ll be coming to collect you from the station by car. If anyone has a condition or disability that affects their ability to travel, I’ll be travelling up by car earlier in the day and am happy to give anyone a lift who needs one, so please feel free to email me directly.
